Lay Pastoral Assistants

Lay Pastoral Assistants are licensed by the Bishop, trained and commissioned by the Diocese, and authorised to engage in pastoral ministry, on a voluntary basis, on behalf of the local church.  Working under the direction of the Minister or Local Lay Minister, they support many areas of parish life.  In Brighstone, Brook, Mottistone and Shorwell with Kingston, they may be involved in visiting people in their homes, to chat or to be a listening ear (not just the elderly or housebound), taking communion to the housebound, hospital visiting, supporting the bereaved, those bringing their children for baptism, marriage preparation, or meeting the specific pastoral needs of men and women of all ages in a variety of different circumstances. We currently have five LPA’s, each with different gifts/talents to hopefully suit every situation.
